Night Shelter for Homeless WomenAs the first synagogue in the nation to open a homeless shelter, Congregation Shearith Israel has sponsored the Night Shelter for Homeless Women for more than 20 years. From November to March, we provide warm beds, hot meals and MARTA transportation to 14 women in transition. The shelter season began Nov. 15. To sign up to volunteer overnight at the shelter go to www.sishelter.org. Our mission is to help these women move from living on the street into permanent housing and jobs. To accomplish this, we rely on more than 400 volunteers who prepare kosher meals, spend the night at the shelter, and provide a variety of services to shelter residents. Keeping the shelter's doors open is an extremely rewarding mitzvah. Your donations and support will help us help these women... THANK YOU!! |
