6th and 7th graders who attend on Shabbat will have a program geared towards their age including time in the main sanctuary, time to work on prayer skills, and time to learn about the parasha in an experiential way.

Why Machaneh Shai on Shabbat?

Your child will

  • enjoy the beauty and traditions of Shabbat
  • make deeper connections with other Jewish youth and the larger congregational community
  • learn in-depth Torah, Hebrew and prayer skills

Objectives:

  • To centralize Shabbat, bringing it back into people’s lives, and to reinvigorate Saturday mornings in the synagogue
  • To help foster deeper connections for participants with the larger congregational community
  • To be able to teach more in depth Torah, Hebrew and prayer skills to those who are looking for depth
  • To expose families to the beauty and tradition of Shabbat in a community

It is our goal for Shabbat mornings at Shearith Israel to be the Mercaz – center – for your Shabbat expression. Whether it be prayer services for families and young children, schmoozing over coffee, participating and singing in Minyan Mercaz, or learning about prayer, this will be the center for it to happen. We also want you to feel centered when you are here.
