Purim 5786
Purim 5786
The festive holiday of Purim begins Monday evening, March 2nd and continues through Tuesday, March 3rd. Let's celebrate TOGETHER, CSI-style! This year, we have a multi-day celebration beginning with a Purim Carnival and Shpiel (Sunday, March 1st) followed by an adult-oriented Sip n' Scroll traditional Megillah reading and art project (Monday evening, March 2nd) and finally, our signature, fun-filled family friendly Megillah reading with dinner, costume contest, pictorial slideshow, and "performance" of the Book of Esther (Tuesday evening, March 3rd!)
More than any other Jewish holiday, Purim is about joy. Purim is about letting go of the masks of propriety and revealing our silliness. Get ready to lighten and brighten the season with yet another unprecedented communal experience and the refreshing playfulness of Purim at CSI.

purimpalooza (PURIM SHPIEL): sunday, march 1st @ 12:30 pm

We can't wait for another unforgettable Purim shpiel, written by CSI's own, playwright Ali Viterbi, and directed by Ori Salzberg. Come enjoy yet another entertaining and delightful performance from Shearith Israelites of all ages!
Be a part of this year's performance! All you need is your ruach (good-spirited energy) and a desire for a good time. Email ori.salzberg@shearithisrael.com to participate.
But what is a shpiel, you ask? Shpiel is a Yiddish word meaning a “play” or “skit.” It is usually boisterously fun and lampoons either the Purim story characters or people in the community. Shearith Israel has a rich history of Shpiels, and 2026 will continue on this path. Don't miss this unforgettable, feel-good fun!
