COngregation Shearith Israel Supports ukraine

As the war rages in Ukraine, we here at Shearith Israel are working to assist those in need however we can. We are proud to say that we have 3 opportunities for you to get involved to help the Ukrainian people. Please take a moment to review these opportunities below and join us in helping out however you can.

provide aid on the ground in Budapest

Our congregation’s own Adina Rudisch is volunteering with the JDC to help refugees fleeing Ukraine. Adina will be leaving for Hungary on May 18th, bearing witness to what’s happening and pitching in. The best way to support Adina’s efforts is to help her raise funds for the refugees that she will be meeting in Budapest. Simply click the link below by Monday, June 6th and we’ll send Adina with the funds to help those in need.

Support the lukyan Family IN ATLANTA

The U.S. has begun to open its borders and thousands of refugees from Ukraine have made their way to Atlanta. The effort is being coordinated by Jewish Family & Career Services, supported by funding from Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.

Shearith Israel is proud to be sponsoring the Lukyan family. They are a family of 4 who fled their war-torn city of Chernivtsi and recently arrived in the Atlanta area on March 23. Vitalik (Dad), Vera (Mom), and their two girls Marta (10) and Talita (8), arrived through the Southern border on a Humanitarian Parolee Stamp and are currently living with a host family in Lawrenceville. They can get Work Authorization Cards, which will allow them to stay in the U.S. for 18 months.

The family will soon be moving into a 2-bedroom apartment owned by a Shearith Israel member. The apartment is now being cleaned, recarpeted, painted and prepped for the family’s use. Soon, the family will be shown the apartment and sign a 1-year lease. At that point, we will be calling on members to help with various tasks.
