csi compost impact report!

Shearith Israel has been composting since 2019 (with a pause during Covid), and we’re proud to share some stats from our impact report highlighting how much waste we’ve diverted, methane avoided, and how many pounds of compost we’ve created. Our “Tomato Potential of Compost” is 12,598 tomatoes!
CSI is working to ensure we continue to maximize our diverted waste and minimize single use plastic through a variety of ways–working with caterers to ensure compliance, providing all serve ware materials for kiddush luncheons, and trying to reduce contamination of our compost bins with non-organic materials.
You can help in this effort, too! When discarding food or trash, be mindful of which bin you are using. Our green bins are for compost only (all food, plates, napkins, and cups) and we have blue bins for recycling (paper, cardboard, etc.) as well as regular trash receptacles.
Here’s to what we’ve achieved as a community and our continued efforts in sustainable business practices and living our Jewish values!
