Children Read Book Drive
Children Read Book Drive
A MITZVAH PROJECT
The whole family can participate!
A collection box is located in the coat room.
Shearith Israel is now collecting children’s books for early learners (ages 0-5 yrs.) which will be given to Children Read.
Children Read is designed to improve reading skills of children by giving them books of their own before they reach kindergarten. To do this, Children Read collects and repairs used and new books and then distributes them to pre-kindergarten children attending Head Start and other programs for low-income families.
In the past two years, Children Read has distributed over 22,000 books to help overcome one of the biggest obstacles to literacy – the scarcity of books in the homes of low-income families.
The family that reads together has a better chance of breaking the illiteracy cycle that keeps appearing generation after generation.

Please do not donate textbooks, encyclopedias, scribbled-in books, damaged books, or musty books. We only can do minor repairs. We definitely can use new books.
This mitzvah project is sponsored by Sisterhood, Sheila Rotter – coordinator. For more information about Children Read, go to their website at www.childrenreadatlanta.org or contact Sheila at sheilamarty@gmail.com.
