Dear family and friends,
We are thrilled you will be able to join us on October 1st for Jordan’s Bar Mitzvah! Some guidance is included below.
The Saturday morning service begins at 9:00 am. Most people arrive between 9:30 and 10:15. As you enter the sanctuary, you will find a table containing kippot (plural for kippah) and programs. A kippah is a head covering and it is required for all males (Jewish or not) as a sign of respect.
Our congregation prays in Hebrew. Jordan will share thoughts in English, but the service may be a bit hard to follow. Throughout the service, there are times when the congregation will stand or sit. You should follow the cues of the service leader. You do not need to bow, but out of respect, please stand when members are standing and be seated accordingly as well. The service generally ends at 12:15 pm. As the service is quite long, it is customary to take breaks to stretch your legs, use the restroom, have some water, etc.
Proper attire at the ceremony for boys or men is a dress shirt with dress pants / khakis. Girls or women should wear a dress, skirt, or nice pants outfit that goes to the knees and covers their shoulders. Even with the sound turned off, it is prohibited to use any electronic devices inside the synagogue. It is best to leave all electronic devices, including cell phones, at home. If you bring your cell phone into the synagogue, it should be turned OFF. Texting and taking photos is not appropriate.
Lunch will be served immediately following the service. Please be aware that outside food is not allowed inside the synagogue. 1:00 pm is a good time to plan to pick up a kiddo (pull into the lot - do not block University Drive).
If you are unable to attend in person, the service can be viewed via Livestream at this link.
We look forward to celebrating this special day with you! If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mama Bear at 404-867-5309 or e-mail at Jordansmom@gmail.com.
