The Wicked-inspired shpiel, Defying Tragedy will take place on Sunday, March 16th at 12:30 pm and is sure to be yet another special, one-time-only performance in true Shearith style.
But what is a shpiel, you ask? Shpiel is a Yiddish word meaning a “play” or “skit.” It is usually boisterously fun and lampoons either the Purim story characters or people in the community. Shearith Israel has a rich history of Shpiels, and 2025 will continue on this path.
Rehearsal dates for the Purim shpiel will take place on either Thursday evenings or Sunday afternoons. Contact Ori Salzberg at ori@meaningful.media with any questions.
