Small Group Learning Interest Form

We are pleased to be a hosting a few small group learning opportunities in the 2025 - 2026 year. Details on each class/series are below. Scroll down to indicate an interest in participating in one or more of the areas of study!

MUSSAR WITH NATALIE KIRSH

Our community will soon embark on a program of study and practice in the Jewish spiritual tradition of Mussar.

Mussar might best be described as “Jewish spiritual ethics” and has been practiced for centuries by people who sought to cultivate and strengthen the qualities of the inner mensch.

Mussar has been undergoing a revival in the Jewish world, and we are fortunate to be able to offer this curriculum created by The Mussar Institute, the leaders in the field. This program  is suitable for all, regardless of level of Jewish knowledge. There are no course prerequisites and knowledge of Hebrew is not required.

All participants will receive a copy of textbook "Everyday Holiness" by Alan Morinis. Combined with a robust curriculum created by The Mussar Institute we will study 9 character traits. Come join in small group study, led by Natalie Kirsh, a trained peer to peer facilitator, as we explore together, in a safe and caring environment, what the Jewish tradition has to teach us about the traits of humility, gratitude, equanimity, patience, order and honor, among others – and discover how you can improve these qualities in your own life.

This 19 week course begins mid October.

In group meetings, personal study, and practice, we will explore these soul traits together.

Mussar offers a Jewish pathway and a set of teachings that will help you find your way toward becoming your best self, and our community to reach its higher potential.

IYUN WITH RABBI ILAN SCHWARTZ

Join Rabbi Ilan Schwartz for an 8-part learning series for parents of school-age kids, with a focus on deep text study and conversations about the issues we grapple with. The cohort approach designed by Iyun is designed to lean into life’s liminal moments with the ancient wisdom of Jewish tradition at the core of the experience, while also enabling participants to build new relationships and expand their Jewish life circle. We will meet once a month in the Shearith Israel lobby, starting after the holidays, and we'll do our best to time our gatherings to when it may actually be convenient for parents. More details on specific topics to follow.

LIVING JEWISHLY IN A DEMOCRACY: EXPLORING OUR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS JEWISH CITIZENS - WITH EMILY KAIMAN

This November, join Emily Kaiman, MAEd, Pardes Alumna and current Pardes Pioneer Fellow, for an 8-part in-person learning series. Through Jewish texts, history, and discussion, we’ll explore how our Jewish values shape our responsibilities and opportunities as engaged citizens in a democratic society. Offered through the Pardes Institute. Exact dates and meeting times TBA.
