Scientists in Synagogues
Scientists in Synagogues
Congregation Shearith Israel is delighted to have been selected as a winner in the Scientists in Synagogues Initiative. The project is a grass-roots program to offer Jews opportunities to explore the most interesting and pressing questions surrounding Judaism and science. Fiscally sponsored and housed at Clal– The National Center for Learning and Leadership, CSI’s team, led by Jonathan Crane, Joshua Weitz, Paul Root Wolpe and Rabbi Kaiman has selected the topic of “The Science of Doing Good”. Our selection – just one of 12 among 55 entries – is a very proud achievement, a real “feather in our cap". The grant will support programming outside the typical adult-ed box. The intent is to connect science and Judaism, as well as prepare the community for the kinds of synagogue initiatives in community service, environmental stewardship, and social justice that are the core of our identity. The program will run during the 2018 - 2019 year.
