Neighborhood Shofar & Tashlich Gatherings

We are pleased to be offering socially-distant gatherings in various neighborhoods on the 2nd day of Rosh Hashanah (Sunday, September 20) for the community to see one another, hear the shofar blasts and perform the Tashlich ritual. 

Resources will be provided for self-guided Tashlich ceremonies at all sites, which may be performed during any of the time slots listed below. Scroll down for details on the schedule and locations:

NEIGHBORHOOD SHOFAR BLASTS - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20:

Shearith Israel Parking Lot (3:30, 4, 4:30 and 5pm)

Led by Rabbi Kaiman
 
A communal Tashlich will take place after the shofar is sounded during the 5pm gathering. Please note: Tashlich will occur at a nearby stream and will involve a short walk.
 

 

Blue Heron Nature Preserve (3:30, 4, 4:30 and 5pm)

Led by Howie Slomka
 
A communal Tashlich will take place after the shofar is sounded during the 5pm gathering. Attendees may perform their own, self-guided Tashlich ceremony during the earlier time slots. 
 
Meeting Location: Park in the main parking lot and walk 2 minutes on the trail to Nancy Creek.
 

 

Candler Park (3:30, 4, 4:30 and 5pm)

Led by Ben Krieger
 
A communal Tashlich will take place after the shofar is sounded during the 5pm gathering. Attendees may perform their own, self-guided Tashlich ceremony during the earlier time slots. 
 

Meeting Location: Park in the main parking lot and meet in the grassy area of the southwest corner or near the picnic benches, depending on availability.

Please note: Tashlich will take place at a brook at Candler Park which is a half-mile walk from the meeting location


 

Glenlake Park (Decatur - 2:30, 3 and 3:30pm)

Led by Vivi Siegel
 
Attendees may perform their own, self-guided Tashlich ceremony at the park.
 
Meeting Location: In the field near the pavilion next to the park's playground.
 

 

Grant Park (2:30pm)

 
Attendees may perform their own, self-guided Tashlich ceremony at the park.
 
Meeting Location: Meet in the grassy area in the northwest corner of Grant Park at Cherokee Avenue and Sydney Street.
 

 

Herbert Taylor Park (2:30, 3, 3:30 and 4pm)

Led by Randy Gorod
 
A communal Tashlich will take place after the shofar is sounded during the 4pm gathering. Attendees may perform their own, self-guided Tashlich ceremony during the earlier time slots. 
 
Meeting Location: Meet near the address above, at the corner of Beech Valley Road and Pasadena Avenue, beside the Herbert Taylor Park sign, and walk down the path to the bridge.
 

 

Piedmont Park (2:30, 3 and 3:30pm)

Meeting Location: Park near the Charles Allen Gate (at 10th Street NE and Charles Allen Drive) and meet on the right-hand side after entering the Charles Allen Gate.
