Teen Education Programs

Through the values learned in K-7 Machaneh Shai, students explored Jewish text, history, tefillah, and holidays. By the time they become teens, they start thinking not just about their own lives, but also more about how the world around them works.

Teenagers:

Show an increasing ability in reasoning and make educated guesses, and sort fact from fiction

Start thinking more abstractly

Begin to set their own goals into the future

Understand the consequences of their action, not just in the present, but in far reaching ways.

Develop a strong sense of right and wrong, and make decisions based on following their conscience.

With these developmental milestones in mind, our 8th-11th grade program delves deeper into seeing how these values have real life connections for them as teenagers. We offer 3 classes for our teens:

8th grade Pirkei Avot with Rabbi Kaiman

Pirkei Avot, translated as Chapters of our ancestors, is a compilation of the ethical teachings and maxims from Rabbinic tradition. Stay tuned for details on enrollment.

9th & 10th grade Masa

Masa, translated as "journey", is the next stage of learning where your child will begin to apply and synthesize the knowledge from their studies in Pirkei Aovt to their lives as teenagers.

11th grade Life Yeshiva

Life Yeshiva is a recent addition to our teen learning programs open to all 11th graders in the community. By 11th grade, students will analyze and evaluate what they have learned regarding living with their Jewish values, and go deeper into discussions about these values, and engage in difficult conversations.

Students will:

involve themselves in deep discussions about these values and the relevancy in their lives,

meet others who have chosen their careers based on these values

see how the expression of these values differ in the denominations

Learn how Jews have lived these values to work for good and make a difference in their local and greater communities
