Master Plan
CSI Master Planning
Congregation Shearith Israel (CSI) convened a Master Planning Committee in November of 2021, with the intention of initiating a campus master plan. Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS), one of the leading planning firms in the country, has been hired to lead us through this process. It has been over 40 years since we have made any meaningful investments to our campus and this marks the first time since the original construction of our main synagogue building in 1957 that our community will have the opportunity to undertake a comprehensive reimagining of our campus together.
What is master planning?
Master Planning provides a long term vision as to how a campus should grow to meet the future needs of a community, while also preserving the things that are most valuable to us. Think of it as a big picture perspective of an institution’s countless moving parts, offering a “roadmap” for how those parts will grow and shift over time.
Why is shearith israel master planning?
Our community has never engaged in a Master Planning process, and it has been 40 years since we’ve made any meaningful capital investment to our campus. Our community has grown, intown Atlanta has thrived and the needs of the Atlanta Jewish community have evolved. Master Planning will build on our 2020 Strategic Plan recommendations and the most recent Facility Plan, both calling for several new options for how we use our spaces, estimated costs for renovations and any use changes. This will enable the Board of Trustees to be purposeful in spending money on the campus, so that we can be proactive in prioritizing investments in our future.
