Worship-High Holidays
5783 at shearith israel
We have returned to our beloved Shearith Israel in so many different ways over the past year. We have welcomed new members, engaged in meaningful dialogue, and worked together to help make this world and our home here in Atlanta just a little better. We have transitioned from being away, to returning home. It is in this same spirit that we begin our holy work of this year’s theme. This year, we will make our own sanctuaries and sacred spaces following in the words from our Torah [Exodus 25:8], “Ve'asu li mikdash veshachanti betocham”, “and they shall make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.” This year we shall dwell together in our holy space and create for ourselves sanctuaries that we will all be able to be together in.
Our rabbis teach that when it came to the building of the Mishkan, the portable tabernacle/sanctuary that we built in the wilderness, each person was supposed to give from the heart that which they felt content in giving.
fulfill a dream or goal
This year, inspired by our theme, we are excited to introduce the “Magshimim” Program. Magshimim, literally meaning one who fulfills a dream or goal, will encourage members of our community to select a stretch goal, a goal that will take time to fulfill, but one that we as a Shearith Israel family and community can celebrate upon completion. Together, we will each stretch ourselves to accomplish those goals that will contribute to an overflowing sanctuary that is Shearith Israel. Join us as we build our community into the best Shearith Israel possible; a Shearith full of love, commitment and possibilities.
